Festival of the Kings - Tuesday 6th January 2026

Happy New Year!

St Thomas the Martyr enjoyed a very cultural return to school in 2026 as their first day back was the 6th of January which is Le Fête des Rois in France.  It is a day to celebrate the Three Wise Men's visit to the baby Jesus and in France a special cake called a galette is eaten.  There is a small figurine (fève) hidden inside the cake and whoever finds this in their piece of cake is allowed to wear the crown and be the king or queen for the day.
The tradition is that the youngest member of the family goes under the table and calls out which person should be given the next piece of cake so that the fève is given out completely at random.  Our youngest pupils enjoyed this role and the juniors enjoyed authentic galettes from France whilst the infants had galettes made from brioche, also from France.
