Our Vision
At St Thomas the Martyr, we believe every child is unique. We are committed to providing an inclusive, caring environment where all children are supported to achieve their full potential.
We work closely with parents, carers and outside professionals to ensure every child receives the right support at the right time.
Types of SEND We Support
We support children with a wide range of needs including:
- 🗣️ Communication and Interaction (including Autism and Speech & Language needs)
- 📚 Cognition and Learning (including Dyslexia and Dyspraxia)
- ❤️ Social, Emotional and Mental Health (including ADHD and anxiety)
- 👂 Sensory and Physical Needs (including hearing, vision and medical needs)
- ⭐ Moderate Learning Difficulties
How We Identify SEND
Children may be identified through:
- Discussions with parents or carers
- Teacher observations and assessments
- Nursery or previous school information
- Advice from health professionals
- Standardised assessments
- Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
Early identification helps us provide the right support as quickly as possible.
How We Support Children
We provide:

Support is reviewed regularly using the Assess – Plan – Do – Review cycle.
Working Together with Families
We value parents as partners.
We provide:
- Open communication with class teachers and SENDCOs
- Parent meetings throughout the year
- Half-termly reviews for children receiving SEND Support
- Annual Reviews for pupils with EHCPs
- Advice on supporting learning at home

Supporting Wellbeing
We recognise that emotional wellbeing is just as important as academic success.
Children may receive:
- Pastoral support
- Nurture approaches
- Social skills groups
- Sensory support
- Emotional check-ins
- Support during transitions
- Referrals to specialist services where appropriate
Transition Support
We carefully support children when they:
- Start Nursery or Reception
- Move between year groups
- Transfer to secondary school
- Join or leave our school
Additional visits and personalised transition plans can be arranged where needed.

Our friendly parent support group meets once every half term.
