Friday 13th March 2026 - Stem, Tag Rugby, Lego Fun and Eco Council in Action

A busy day at St Thomas the Martyr CE Primary on Friday 13th March 2026. In the STEM session, the Year 5 children continued their work on parachutes. Using some art materials they made their own parachutes, which they then had to attach to an object of a certain weight. They tested them outside in our garden, however they realised that the object they had chosen was far too heavy.  After some thought and discussion, they chose a lighter object which made such a difference to the chute.
Some of our Year 5 children enjoyed participating in a Wigan Warriors tag rugby event at Burscough Sports Centre. Our children got stuck in with enthusiasm and lots of laughter.

We have a Lego star in Year 2 who impressed all with her flamingo.

Up Holland Parish Council joined forces with Cleaner, Greener Up Holland and our Eco Council to carry out a community clean-up of Mill Lane Play Area and the surrounding field.

Working through both rain and sunshine, the pupils carefully collected litter that others had carelessly discarded.  Activities like this not only improve the environment but also help reinforce an important lesson — if you help pick up litter, you are far less likely to drop it yourself.

It was a joyful and positive day for everyone involved, demonstrating the power of community spirit and the difference young people can make when they take pride in their local area.
